VFW Post 9835 Commander Dombroff joined the commanders of the other Veterans Service Organizations in Fauquier County (VFW Post 7728, American Legion Posts 72, 247 & 360) at ceremonies marking Veterans Day 2021. The ceremonies, which took place at the Veterans Memorial on Hospital Hill, were well attended by numerous veterans and local citizens. The keynote address was delivered by retired Army LT Col (NC) Linda Jolly. The Liberty HS JROTC unit and the Liberty Band also participated.
Post members participated in the annual Veteran's Day Poppy Drive over the weekend of 5-7 November. Post members collected over $3,450 in donations for the Relief Fund, signed up two new members and presented Vietnam Veteran Lapel Pins to veterans of that conflict.

The District 8 Commander presented the Post with a certificate indicative of our attaining All American Post status for 2020-2021. This is the 7th time in the Post's history that it's been recognized as an All American Post:
2011 - Post Commander Stan Hunter
2013/2014/2015 - Post Commander Geoff Lyster
2017 - - Post Commander Tim Nosal
2019/2021 - Post Commander Jeff Dombroff
Sharing a letter I received from the VFW Commander-in-Chief citing Post member Geoff Lyster for his recruiting efforts in the current year. Geoff, with 37 new and reinstated members to his credit through October 11, is the 2nd ranked recruiter in the Department of Virginia out of 167 VFW members with at least one to their credit.
Post 9835 Commander (and District 8 Commander) Jeff Dombroff joined five previous District 8 Commanders for a photo op at the District 8 Meeting on August 21st at the Culpeper Post. The six commanders from left to right are:
Rick Raskin (2010-2014); Stan Hunter (2014-2015); Ron Link (2015-2018); Jeff Dombroff (2021-present); Geoff Lyster (2018-2019); Charles Bush (2019-2021). Stan Hunter and Geoff Lyster are also members of Post 9835. Rick Raskin is a past State Commander (2019-2020) and Geoff Lyster is the current State Senior Vice Commander.
These are the Post's newest awards - we have updated the Department-issued plaques to reflect Post 9835's attainment of All State and Honor Post status for 2020-2021. Thanks to all who helped. Now they get stored in my basement (along with the dozens of banners for earlier years that preceded the plaques) until we get a building in which to permanently display them.
Thanks for their gracious support!

On July 22, VFW 9835 Post Commander Jeff Dombroff, accompanied by Post Senior Vice Commander Chris Hawks, presented Certificates of Appreciation to the Managers of the Warrenton Giant and Safeway supermarkets. The certificates were in recognition of their respective stores’ willingness to permit the VFW to solicit donations for Buddy Poppies and the Post’s Relief Fund in front of their stores during the three days leading up to the Memorial Day holiday. Citizens were extremely responsive and the Post collected a combined $6,800 in donations at both sites. SVC Hawks was also in charge of the Post’s efforts in this campaign and had coordinated with both stores in advance of the effort.
Today VFW Commander-in-Chief Hal Roach announced that any District or Post meeting every requirement for All American designation this year WILL be named an All American Post for 2020-2021. While only the top 25 Posts in each division will actually have National buy their commanders' All American Caps and get to have their commanders walk across the stage at the National Convention to receive them, every other qualifying District & Post (including Post 9835) will be designated "All American" and earn the coveted streamer and citation and be listed in the VFW Magazine. Post 9835 attained its 100% membership goal at the end of May, participated in the Buddy Poppy Program and submitted candidates to higher levels in the Patriot's Pen, Voice of Democracy and Teacher of the Year competitions - all of which were among the requirements for AA status. This makes the 7th time in this Post's history that we have been designated All American: 2011, 13, 14, 15, 17, 19, & 21. Well done comrades!!!!!
The Commander-in-Chief has authorized a “Post Member” cap for members in a Post that achieves All-American during the 2020-2021 Membership year (like Post 9835!) . Post members may purchase a cap from the VFW store, https://www.vfwstore.org/ once the All-American announcement is made in early July. See sample below. Post Commanders and Quartermasters ordering them will have their titles on the cap instead of the words "Post Member". The Post number and state will be on the other side.
On May 31st, Post Commander Jeff Dombroff joined the commanders of the other four Veteran Services Organizations in Fauquier County in a small but moving ceremony to mark Memorial Day at the Warrenton Cemetery flagpole. About two dozen citizens attended including Police Chief (and Post 9835 Life Member) Mike Kochis and Fauquier County Sheriff Bob Mosier

Things got turned around a little for us as we usually have tables set up at two doors at Walmart and the one at Giant while the Auxiliary took space at Safeway. With the demise of the Auxiliary, it fell to the Post to pick up the slack at Safeway while holding down our regular locations. Then things went cross-wise. Walmart had a change in managers and the old one never told his successor (or staff) that he'd approved our being there as usual. So a last-minute check by us resulted in our being informed that no one knew anything about it and they just couldn't allow us to set up in front of the store due to COVID-19 jitters. A quick notice on the Fauquier Community Facebook site informed the citizens that we would't be at Walmart. Still, it worked out pretty well. Seventeen Post members and three members of the local scouting community (including Eliza Moore along with her Dad Jimmy) held down the forts. With a few odds and ends still to be tallied, the Post earned over $6,700 in donations from the local community, We also signed up enough new members to close the gap and ensure that we will be designated All State for the 5th year in a row. Also nine Vietnam War veterans were identified an presented with the commemorative lapel/hat pin for their service. We also were able to help out a sister Post...the Commander of the Fredericksburg Post (3103) called Sunday morning to ask if we had extra Poppies available as they were running out. We had a pretty good supply so were able to provide them an additional 1,000 poppies and still have a lot left over despite freely handing them out to people whether they contributed or not. As usual, those Post members who assisted found themselves on the receiving end of a lot of very nice comments and stories by the people they encountered.
